First Steps Nursery

Our aim at First Steps Nursery is to provide high quality care and education where ‘childhood is valued’  Every child is valued as an individual and encouraged to develop to their full potential.  We place a huge emphasis on helping children to develop a high self-esteem and a love of learning.

We have two nurseries, one in New Mills and one in Furness Vale. The two sites complement each other and although they have very different layouts our ethos remains the same.

Our nursery opening hours are between 7:30 am and 6:30pm from Monday to Friday.  Both nurseries are open all year round (except for Bank Holidays and 1 week between Christmas and New Year).   Both term time and all year options are available.

Our Staff

As the owner, I manage both nurseries and I hold a Degree in Early Years, the Early Years Professional Status and a Cert Ed.  I have over 37 years’ experience both working with young children and training and assessing nursery nurses.  I am really passionate about children having the right start in life and have strong beliefs that children’s emotional security forms the foundation for learning.

We have a highly qualified and experienced management team consisting of:  one early years teacher; two who hold a Degree in Early Years, one of whom also has Early Years Teacher Status; and one who is in the last year of her Degree in Early Years.  Together they have a total of more than 53 years’ experience working with early years.  One of our management team also holds a level three SENCO qualification.

Together we are the driving force of the nurseries and as such all share the same ethos.

Our staff are our most valuable resource and as such are chosen very carefully. They all have a genuine love of children and are highly committed to the care, welfare and education of children. In order to maintain our high standards, staff are supported in their professional development, which is reflected in their levels of qualification.  All our staff hold a minimum level three qualification in childcare, and one who is a qualified primary and early years teacher and one who is in the second year of her degree.  The only exception to this are four staff working towards their level 3 and one working towards level 2.  All our staff are qualified in Paediatric First Aid and Safeguarding.
